New research funding opportunities in the area of Anti Microbial Resistance (AMR) are announced. In support of the European Commission's Action plan against the threats from antimicrobial resistance published in November 2011 as well as in response to TATFAR recommendations, a number of research funding initiatives are launched that are expected to maintain and strengthen research to combat AMR, and present a multitude of opportunities for strong interdisciplinary cooperation between academics, research organisations, clinicians, pharmaceutical companies, and SMEs.
Within the Cooperation programme of the FP7,three themes: HEALTH, Nanosciences, Nanotechnologies, Materials and new Production Technologies (NMP), and Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, and Biotechnology (KBBE) are launching a package of topics addressing AMR in a complimentary way. Projects can be submitted as from now on.
Some examples of topics funded under FP7:
HEALTH.2013.2.3.1-1: Drugs and vaccines for infections that have developed or are at the risk of developing significant anti-microbial resistance.
HEALTH.2013.2.3.1-2: Stratified approaches to antibacterial and/or antifungal treatment.
KBBE.2013.1.3-05: Ecology of drug resistant bacteria and transfer of antimicrobial resistance throughout the food chain.
NMP.2013.1.2-2 Nanotherapeutics to treat bacterial infectious diseases.
