In Algemeen, Sustainability

In a fast-changing and unpredictable world, the EU must strive to secure prosperity and maintain its competitiveness. To ensure that European businesses flourish, the Commission has developed a long-term strategy, looking beyond 2030, to boost competitiveness and productivity.

This strategy includes key areas of focus:

  • A functioning Single Market
  • Access to private capital and investment
  • Public investment and infrastructure
  • Research and Innovation
  • Energy
  • Circularity
  • Digitalisation
  • Education and skills
  • Trade and open strategic autonomy

Regarding Research and Innovation more particularly, the EU aims at increasing its investment in the field and providing, among others, tax incentives. Concerning circularity, the EU has established a set of rules to move towards a more circular economy (namely, the Circular Economy Action Plan, the Eco-design rules for sustainable products and the digital product passport). Finally, the Commission is working on ways to simplify time-consuming reporting requirements for companies and administrations which is an important burden for them. More info here
