The JPI Urban Europe just launched a new call for projects “ERA-NET Cofund Urban Transformation Capacities” open till 15 April 2021.

The JPI Urban Europe is a consortium of funding agencies from 14 EU countries (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Estonia, France, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain and Sweden) offer 18,4 million euros to launch and realise collaborative, multidisciplinary, innovative projects for private and public sector R&I actors. The consortium is cofounded by the European Commission under Horizon 2020.

This call welcomes a broad range of research and innovation projects that enable capacity building for urban transformations. Projects should study transformation processes and transformative capacity building for increased knowledge and understanding of such processes making it possible to  develop this knowledge further. All projects are expected to be cross-sectoral and will be required to clearly engage relevant stakeholders, including the public sector.

The call focus on 3 topics, a proposal must address at least one call topic but may be related to several call topics :

  • Topic 1: Urban circular economies
  • Topic 2: Community-based developments and urban innovation ecosystems
  • Topic 3: Robust and resilient urban infrastructure and built environment

Similarly to Horizon 2020, projects should be submitted by consortium of at least three eligible applicants from at least three different countries whose funders participate in the call. If selected, each applicant will be funded by its own innovation agency. Therefore, applicants should comply both with the rules of the call and the rules of their own funding agency.

Brussels applicants will be funded by innoviris.brussels Eligible applicants are Brussels based  private compagnies, universities, research organisation, public administration, associations and municipalities. Innoviris funded projects shall fulfil some regional criteria listed p.37 of the call text, in particular the valorisation of results in t he region and the involvement of regional end users which is mandatory in this call.

The call applies a two-step application process, in which the first step involves the submission of a pre-proposal outline and the second step is for submission of complete full proposals. The deadline for the pre-submission is 15 April 2021 and for full submission 23 September 2021.
