A new Innovation Call from the EIT Food is opened till 14 January 2022.

The EIT Food is one of the Knowledge and Innovation Communities from the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT). More information on NCP Brussels website.

EIT Food connects businesses, research centres, universities and consumers to make the food system more sustainable, healthy and trusted.

Among the classical features from the EIT KICs are innovation calls for transnational consortia around the thematics of the KIC. The annual Innovation Call of the EIT Food is now open till 14 January 2022.

The Call is open to all organisations eligible for Horizon Europe funding.  It is not a prerequisite to be an EIT Food partner to submit a proposal but you will be asked to join the EIT food. Consortia must include minimum 3 organisations from at least 2 different eligible countries representing at least two sides of the knowledge triangle. Ideally the coordinator should be the partner responsible for commercialising the activity’s results.

The consortia should submit proposals for collaborative activities which will bring innovative technology solutions to the market in the agrifood sector. They must propose one or more near-to-market, commercially viable innovative technology solutions aligned with EIT Food’s Focus Areas, Challenges and Impact Framework . The innovative solutions must have a TRL level 7 at the time of the proposal submission; and all proposed activities, regardless of activity duration, must launch at least one innovative solution by 31 December 2023, including revenue generated of at least 10.000 EUR. Activities ending in 2024 must launch an additional marketed innovation by 31 December 2024.

EIT Food anticipates funding between 15 and 25 projects with about 400-600k€ annual spend each for 2-3 years covering max. 60% of the project cost. The call offers grants however

  • A Financial Return Mechanism, kind of success fee, is mandatory for each proposed Activity with a minimum required financial return of 50% Of the EIT Grant budgeted
  • Becoming a member involved paying a membership fee.
