In Grow internationally, Innovation, Sustainability

You are a start-up and probably one of the typical issue you have is to find the VERY FIRST clients who allow the young company to have the first business case and the revenues. Both are necessary to attract new leads.

The public procurement for innovative products and services, issued by the public sector, can be a good approach to overcome this obstacle. But it is very often underused even though the market potential is huge, see here below:

WHY?

Because start-ups think that public procurement is not for them. Here below – extracted by a brochure edieted by the EC, DG Grow – the 9 reasons showing why public procurement of innovation IS for start-ups:

In the brochure available HERE, start-ups can find hands-on information on how to take advantage from such a practice which includes as well the innovation partnership, which is a procedure that combines research, innovation and procurement.

As explained in the brochure, the process is divided into phases:

  • The tendering phase, taking place at the very beginning of the procedure and consisting in the selection of the most suitable partners (which have of course applied!!) showing their f their capacity to execute the contract and their tenders.
  • In development phase : the partner(s) develops the new solution in collaboration with the buyer, according to the tech specs agreed upon. This phase can be divided into several stages during which the number of partners may be
gradually reduced, depending on whether they meet
    predetermined targets.
  • In the commercial phase, the final one, the partner(s) produce the innovative solution, which will be purchased by the buyer
