The TEF-Health (Testing and Experimentation Facility for Health AI and Robotics) project is launching a call for start-up and SMEs.

What is TEF-Health?

TEF-Health is a project funded by the Digital Europe Programme of the European Commission and national funding agencies with a total of about €60 million. It started in 2023 and will last 5 years. It aims to aims to facilitate and accelerate the validation and certification of AI and robotics in medical devices. 51 academic and private partners from nine European countries are involved in the project, integrating existing infrastructures as well as building new ones.

For whom is the call?

Startups and SMEs that:

  • Are legally incorporated and established in one of the EU member states
  • Are nominated SME according to the EU definition (Commission Recommendation 2003/361/EC)
  • Have not received over 200,000 € in state aid support during the previous 3 fiscal years
  • Have an AI and robotics solutions with a minimum Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of 4
  • Were not supported or are under supported by another Portuguese testbed

Selected startups and SMEs from EU member states will receive state aid support in the form of discounts on the market price of validation services.

What is the timeline of the call?

The call has opened for application on 1 February 2024. The call will close when 100 products/pilots have been selected for implementation under the RRP (Resilience and Recuperation Program), National Network Testbed (Project:189), or on 30 of September 2025.
