If you are active in industry or are a clean tech player, then do not miss the forthcoming calls that the Innovation Fund will open next 23/11/2023.

What’s the Innovation Fund?

The Innovation Fund  is one of the world’s largest funding programmes for the demonstration of innovative low-carbon technologies. It will contribute to greenhouse gas reduction, by:

  • improving the risk-sharing for projects. Giving more funding in a more flexible way through a simpler selection process and also open to projects from energy-intensive industries
  • aiming to create financial incentives for companies and public authorities to invest in cutting-edge low-carbon technologies and support Europe’s transition to climate neutrality.
  • focussing on highly innovative technologies and big flagship projects with European value added that can bring significant emission reductions.

€4.8 billion through 2 calls

Next 23/11/23 the EC will open 2 calls to support the purposes set in the European Green Deal on the one side, and the Net-Zero Industry Act on the other side. The Innovation Fund will be the vehicle for such calls.

Innovation Fund 2023 Call

IF23 Call will offer up to €4 billion for projects in various sectors, including decarbonisation, clean tech manufacturing, maritime and energy-intensive industries. The application window will be open until early April 2024

Innovation Fund 2023 Auction

The IF23 Auction is the first of its kind in Europe. Auctions (also called Competitive bidding) are indeed a new support mechanism to foster faster and more cost-efficient support for the roll-out of low-carbon technologies. The IF23 Auction aims to support renewable hydrogen production. A €800 million budget will be available for bidders (project developers). Bids can be placed until early February 2024

2 dedicated info days for potential applicants

The EC and Executive Agency managing the programme will organise 2 info days to run potential applicants through the call text and application process.
