They’ve done it again! Our readers may remember than in October 2022, Brussels company BEEODIVERSITY received equity & grant under the EIC Accelerator to finance its BeeOimpact project, a unique solution using the bee ecosystem to extract valuable biodiversity data and metrics. Well, in March 2024, BEEODIVERSITY has another time received EU support, this time through the EIC Transition scheme for their BeeOmetrics project. This project, building on results from their UPSURGE Horizon 2020 project,  is an AI-powered predictive platform based on wild bee activity for targeted environmental management, with applications in sectors as varied as Food&Beverage, Smart Cities, Real-estate…

This goes to show that it is possible and even encouraged to submit applications for different and complementary EU funding tools, in the spirit of fostering synergies between projects en multiplying their impact. In this case, BEEODIVERSITY is part of a collaborative project under Horizon 2020 Green Deal calls – the UPSURGE project. This project, while still ongoing (2021-2025), has already yielded results that the BEEODIVERSITY team was able to build on in its BeeOmetrics proposal under the EIC Transition Challenge call in 2023. And this is implemented in parallel of the BeeOimpact project, which received funding in 2022 under the EIC Accelerator and is also currently ongoing. With each application, the team reinforces its network, its expertise and credentials, thereby strengthening its chances of success for future projects.

How did NCP Brussels support BEEODIVERSITY?

The Enterprise Europe Brussels / NCP Brussels team was proud to help out in the application process by offering proof reading and a jury pitch simulation to prepare the BEEODIVERSITY for the jury interview.

Michaël Van Cutsem, BEEODIVERSITY CEO: “The team helped us better understand the criteria of the EIC and the essential elements to put forward in the file. Their review of the file with an external and informed perspective was invaluable in improving the structure and formulation of our request as well as the points of attention. Their mastery of the procedure, particularly in connection with the interview, also allowed us to be in the best conditions to present the project.”

Can I be the next EIC success story?

Have you identified EU-funded project result(s) with promising commercial potential that could be the basis for ground-breaking innovations and promising new businesses?

  • Is this novel promising technology ready for the next steps towards its maturation and validation, to be further developed and validated for some specific, high potential, commercial applications?
  • Have you conducted a preliminary market research to identify potential markets for your innovation and explored potential competitors?
  • Do you envisage building a motivated and entrepreneurial team with a mix of skills, including researchers, business people, marketers etc. to develop and drive the idea towards commercial success?

If the answer to each and every of these questions is a clear ‘yes’, then EIC Transition may be the right call for you!

The expected outcomes of an EIC Transition project are:

  • a technology that is demonstrated to be effective for its intended application (TRL 5/6)  and
  • a business model, its initial validation and a business plan for its development to market.

Grants of up to €2.5 million are available to validate and demonstrate technology in application-relevant environment and develop market readiness. The next cut-off for EIC Transition Open calls is 18 September 2024.
